Abstract


The problem in this study is that the relationship between activity on Facebook and the use of WhatsApp Messenger are not yet known to the motivation to study at the College of Buddhist Students in Sriwijaya Tangerang Banten. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Activity on Facebook and the use of WhatsApp Messenger on Student Learning Motivation at the High School of Buddhism, Sriwijaya Tangerang, Banten. The study was limited to the students of Sriwijaya Tangerang Banten State High School in Banten in the even semester of the academic year 2018/2019.

This type of quantitative research is a correlation method. This research uses simple random sampling technique. The study was conducted at the Sriwijaya State College of Religion, Tangerang, Banten. The independent variable of research is Activity on Facebook (X1) and the use of WhastApp Messenger (X2), the dependent variable in research is Learning Motivation (Y). Data collection was done by non-test technique using a questionnaire with four classifications using a Likert scale. Distributed questionnaires were calculated using the Slovin formula  with a sample size of 93. The prerequisite test was carried out with a validity test and reliability testing. Testing classic assumptions is done by regression normality test, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation test. The data analysis technique used in this study is multiple correlation analysis.

The research results get a relationship. Figures obtained from the multiple correlation test obtained R of 0.530 or 53%. The contribution of activity on Facebook and the use of WhatsApp Messenger to motivation to learn amounted to 0.281 or 28.1%, while 71.1% came from other factors not examined in this study. Partially there is a moderate relationship between activity variables on Facebook and learning motivation if the use of WhatsApp Messenger is controlled by 0.528, then there is a partial correlation between WhatsApp Messenger usage and learning motivation if the activity variable on Facebook is controlled with the acquisition of -0,079.
